SCIENTIFIC NAME: Makaira nigricans

 

DESCRIPTION: Body coloration variable. Blue marlins can flash from almost white to deep blue but often exhibit a golden blue coloration with iridescent blue vertical bars. Sword long and needle shaped when unbroken. Tail often blue. Wedge shaped dorsal fin runs almost the length of the back.

 

RANGE: Circumtropical/temperate. It is presently unclear if the Indo-Pacific Blue Marlin is a separate species.
